Description

Copiapoa bridgesii is a species of plant in the genus Copiapoa in the cactus family (Cactaceae). The specific epithet bridgesii honors the English plant collector Thomas Bridges. Copiapoa bridgesii grows singly or in loose groups. The short cylindrical to cylindrical shoots are grass green and 20 to 40 centimeters high with a diameter of five to eight centimeters. The 8 to 12 ribs are straight, blunt and somewhat bumpy. The small areoles are close together and partially flow into each other. The thorns are black to brown, turning gray with age. There are one to three straight, protruding central spines of 1.5 to 5 centimeters in length and five to ten radial spines of 1 to 2 centimeters in length. The funnel yellow flowers are wide open. They are three to four inches long.Copiapoa bridgesii is distributed in Chile in the Región de Antofagasta between Barquito and Taltal.
