Description

Coryphantha echinus usually grows individually , but occasionally forms large groups almost completely covered by the need. The spherical to short-cylindrical gray-green shoots reach from 3 to 6.5 centimeters (3 to 20 centimeters) heights of 3 to 20 centimeters. The up to 12 millimeters long, strong warts are conical to cylindrical. The one to four, occasionally missing, whitish middle thorns are darker. The upper one is very stiff, protruding and mostly straight. The lower middle spines are straight and slimmer. The 16 to 30 whitish, interlocking edge spines have a length of 1 to 2 centimeters. The bright bright yellow flowers reach diameters of 2.5 to 5.5 centimeters. The green fruits are up to 2.5 centimeters long.
