Coryphantha octacantha

Description

Coryphantha octacantha grows individually or forms groups. The elongated to short cylindrical, olive shoots achieve diameters of up to 30 centimeters or more when diameters of up to 10 centimeters are reached. The four-edged, up to 30 millimeters long warts are conical and loosely arranged. The axillae carry white wool and one or two red nectar glands. The one to two brownish middle spines are strong, straight, protruding and up to 2 centimeters long. The seven to eight yellowish spines have a darker tip. They are thin, stiff and straight and have lengths of up to 1.5 centimeters. The lemon- yellow flowers reach diameters of 4 to 6 centimeters. The elongated fruits are up to 2.5 centimeters long.
