Disocactus eichlamii

Description

Disocactus eichlamii is a species in the genus Disocactus in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet honors the German cactus collector Friedrich Eichlam . Disocactus eichlamii has basal rotunda, upright, later also over-bent and hanging main shoots which are up to 40 centimeters long and 1.5 to 5 centimeters wide. They are at the base drehrund flattened otherwise dreikantig, partially flattened with wavy edges. The areoles are uncorned. The flowers appear singly or up to five in tufts along the length of the flattened shoots. They are narrow, somewhat funnel-shaped, crimson and are 6 to 8 inches long. The stamens and the stylus protrude clearly. The spherical red fruits are 0.9 to 1.4 inches long. Disocactus eichlamii is distributed in Guatemala in the administrative districts of Escuintla and Santa Rosa between 1000 and 2200 meters altitude. The first description as Phyllocactus eichlamii was made in 1911 by Wilhelm Weingart . Nathaniel Lord Britton and Joseph Nelson Rose they made in 1913 to Disocactus . Synonyms are the following described species: Phyllocactus eichlamii Weing. (1911) and Epiphyllum eichlamii (Wines) LOWilliams (1962). In the IUCN Red List of Endangered Species the species is referred to as " Endangered (EN) ", i. H. as being at risk.
