Description

Eriosyce marksiana is a species of plant in the genus Eriosyce of the cactus family (Cactaceae). The specific epithet marksiana honors the American cacti lover Herman Marks, who supported the travels of Friedrich Ritter. Eriosyce marksiana initially grows with flattened spherical to almost spherical, later elongated grey-green shoots and reaches a diameter of 12 to 24 centimeters. The crown is soon. The roots are fibrous. There are 16 to 28 ribs sunken above and below the areoles. The thick, greyish-brown spines have a darker tip and are 1.5 to 2.5 centimeters long. The one to six central spines are not flattened and strongly bent upwards. Of the eight to twelve lateral spines, some are also directed upwards. The funnel- to bell-shaped flowers are lemon yellow to sometimes reddish yellow. They are 3 to 4 centimeters long and have the same diameter. The brownish red to greenish fruits are fleshy. They are up to 1.5 centimeters long and open with a basal pore. Eriosyce marksiana is distributed south of Santiago de Chile to the Río Maule in the foothills and foothills of the Andes. thefirst descriptionas Pyrrhocactus marksianus was made in 1960 byFriedrich Ritter.
