(Neoraimondia arequipensis)
Neoraimondia arequipensis (Backeb.) Buxb. It is a phanerogam species belonging to the Cactaceae family. It is a perennial and fleshy bushy plant that reaches 9 m in height and 40 cm in diameter. It has 5 to 8 ribs with 5 cm long areolas armed withthorns, some up to 25 cm long. White or pink flowers. Neoraimondia arequipensis subsp. roseiflora (Werdermann & Backeberg) Ostolaza (1998) is an endemic cactus in Peru and is widely distributed throughout the Andes, in the Departments of Ancash, Lima and Ica, being the Department of Lima where its presence is verified in almost all the valleys with a high number of individuals. They survive with very little water, only with the sea breeze in the coastal hills or the garúa, a phenomenon that originates with the current of El Niño. Neoraimondia arequipensis was described by (Backeb.) Buxb. and published in Blätter für Kakteenforschung, in the year 1936.
