Oroya peruviana is a species of Magnoliopsida first described by Karl Moritz Schumann, and given the simplified Asian name by Nathaniel Lord Britton and Joseph Nelson Rose. Oroya peruviana belongs to the genus Oroya, and the family Cactaceae. None of these subspecies are listed. Oroya is a genus of cacti (family Cactaceae), originating from Peru.The name comes from the Peruvian town of la Oroya where the first plants were discovered.Oroya species are solitary with a globular form and many ribs with usually-dense pectinate spines. Usually up to 32 cm (13 in) high, and 22 cm (9 in) in diameter. Small flowers (up to 1 cm in diameter) grow along a ring near the top of the plant. The flowers are yellow, but their stems are often pink or red.
