Description

Stetsonia coryne, the toothpick cactus, is the sole species in the cactus genus Stetsonia. The plant is native to the deserts and dry forest (Gran Chaco) of Argentina, Bolivia and Paraguay. Stetsonia coryne grows to a height of 15 to 25 ft (4.6 to 7.6 m) tall. It has white flowers. The genus was named to honor Francis Lynde Stetson, a New York attorney and plant lover. Stetsonia is the scientific name of two genera of organisms and may refer to: Stetsonia (foraminifera), a genus of foraminifera in the family Pseudoparrellidae Stetsonia (plant), a genus of plants in the cactus family
