Stream-Bed Cyanea

(Cyanea habenata)

galery

Description

Cyanea habenata is known only from the type specimen collected on the island of Kaua'i, Hawaii. It was collected in 1978 at Limahuli Valley on the north side of the island. Since its validity as a species has only recently (in 1998) recognized, botanists have not spent much time looking for it. Limahuli's rare plants are being threatened by feral pigs and alien plants. Also, Cyanea bark is known to be sometimes gnawed on by rats.
