Description

Hippobroma is a genus of flowering plants within the family Campanulaceae. They are erect or decumbent perennial herbs, with a size of 30-50 (-90) cm high. Leaves elliptical to oblanceolate, mostly (5-) 10-20 cm long and (1-) 2-5 cm wide, thick and irregularly reparte-dentate with 15-20 large teeth as well as callose-denticulate with 4-6 times more small teeth. Solitary flowers in the armpits of the leaves, pedicels ca 0.4-0.8 cm long, with a pair of basal bractéolas, filiform and 2-4 mm long; obconic hypanthium, 6-10 mm long, calyx wolves more or less linear, margins callosto-denticulate; corolla hypocrateriform, white to white with pale green nerves, tube 5-13.5 cm long, subequal wolves, 1.3-2.7 cm long; filaments glabrous, connate distally, anthers connate, slightly bent, anthers shorter than 3 mm long, with fascicles of dense trichomes at the apex and the longest ca 5-6 mm long, white-barbed at the apex. Capsules 1.2-2 cm long, 4/5 or more ínferas, biloculadas, loculicidas apicalmente; foveolate-reticulate seeds.
