It is a species present in the Portuguese territory, namely in Continental Portugal . In terms of naturalness it is endemic to the aforementioned region. It is protected by Portuguese or European Community legislation, in particular Annex II and IV of the Habitats Directive and Annex I of the Convention on Wildlife and Natural Habitats in Europe .
