Billings' Sedge

(Carex trisperma billingsii)

galery

Description

Carex billingsii, Sphagnum bogs, usually on hummocks and typically in more sunny sites than the closely related C. trisperma. Very local, but only recently recognized as a distinct species (Kirschbaum 2007), and perhaps somewhat overlooked. The filiform-involute leaves give this somewhat the look of the upland Carex eburnea, but topped with inflorescences resembling those of C. trisperma.
