Description

They are perennial or annual, cespitosas or rhizomatous plants ; Foliaceous culms, solids, teretes or angulations, rigid; Hermaphrodite plants. Leaves with lanceolate-linear or essentially lamellar sheets; Sheath strong, closed, without ligula and rigid. Inflorescence a single or terminal spikelet fasciculus, or one or more dense peaks composed of glomeruli, or sometimes pinnate spikelets; Spikelets lanceolate-ovoid or cylindrical, of many soft scales, markedly ribbed-spit, imbricated in spiral, thin, greenish, all fertile except a few lower; Perfect florets, perianth in 2 sets of bristles, 3 internally laminated, the outer ones simple, or less frequently the perianth of a single laminated or laminated series; Stamens 2 or 3; Carpels 3, trifid style, linear stigmas.
