Acalypha amentacea is an evergreen shrub, sometimes becoming more tree-like, usually growing around 2 metres tall.The plant is harvested from the wild for local use as a medicine. It is grown as a hedge and oramental, valued for its attractive, rather curved and coarsely crisped, dark or bright red, red-green, or green leaves, which are often mottled or variegated with various shades of red, dark pink, white, or bronzy green.
