Description

Platycrater arguta is the only species of the plant genus Platycrater within theHydrangea family ( Hydrangeaceae). Platycrater arguta is a deciduous shrub that reaches a height of 50 to 300 centimeters. The bark of the index is brown and almost glabrous. The decussate leaves are divided into petiole and blade. The petiole is 1 to 7 centimeters long. The simple leaf blade is lanceolate to elliptical with a wedge-shaped blade base with a length of 9 to 15 centimeters and a width of 3 to 6 centimeters. The leaf margin is roughly serrated. Both leaf surfaces are hairy or the upper side of the leaf is almost bare. In China, the flowering period is in July. The inflorescences are zymose panicles or dichasiale cymes. Some of the flowers are sterile, these are three to four, rarely two to five lobes. The actual flowers have four sepals fold over one another. The four likewise foldable arranged petals are ovoid, white and declining at fruiting time. The stamens of more than 200 stamens are filiform. The stylodia are unfused, the stigmas terminal. The middle- constant ovary is two to four compartments, the ovules are arranged inconsistently. The capsule ripens in China between September and October and opens at the extreme end between the styles to reveal the numerous seeds. The dark brown seeds are spindle-shaped and short-winged with a length of 1.0 to 1.5 millimeters. The chromosome number is 2n = 34. Platycrater arguta is found in Japan and the Chinese provinces of Anhui, Fujian, Jiangxi and Zhejiang.
