Description

The potbelly or potbellied Ceibo ( Pseudobombax septenatum ) is a tree of the subfamily Bombacoideae, closely related to the ceibas ( Bombax spp.); It is natural of the New World, distributing from Nicaragua to Venezuela and Colombia . It is a large tree, deciduous ; the shaft is fusiform, often with a bulging thickening near the base. The bark is pardogrisácea, with distinctive stripes of green color that attenuate with age but allow to differentiate it throughout its life. The cup is concentrated in the upper part; for most of its length it lacks branches . The leaves are compound, clapped, between 5 and 7 leaflets of up to 15 by 7 cm, obovate, acuminate, with a short petiole that extends into grooved petioles. It loses leaves completely around December, and does not recover them until the beginning of the rainy season in April or May.
