Description

Trichospermum is a genus of fanerógama with 58 species belonging to the family Malvaceae . 1 It is found in Malaysia and tropical America. They are trees; with branches, inflorescences, underside of the leaves, main nerve and nerves in the bundle with starch trichome dressing ; dioic plants . Leaves ovate-lanceolate, entire margin or more commonly serrulated, frequently serrate-glandular, lateral basal nerves almost as developed as the main nerve, 2 or 3 pairs of smaller lateral nerves in the apical half of the lamina, curved and attached close to margin, tertiary nerves more or less parallel between the main nerve and the basal laterals, 5-7 sublateral nerves between the basal laterals and the margin, domacios frequently present in the armpits of the nerves; stipulesexpire Inflorescences paniculiform or umbelliform, axillary or terminal, bractéolas deciduous, epicalyx absent, flowers 5-meres; sepals free, deciduous; petals more or less ligulate, somewhat shorter than the sepals, retusae to bifid at the apex, pinkish-whitish or purple-blue, base with a large gland rounded to lobate; androgynophore naked, crowned by a wavy and densely velor urulene surrounding the base of the stamens, stamens 15 (staminodium present in the pistillate flowers), free filaments, subglobose anthers, mediifixt, versatile, longitudinal dehiscence; ovary superior, (rudimentary pistilodium present in the staminate flowers), sessile on the androgynophore, 2 (3) -locular, numerous ovules per locule. Fruit capsule compressed in the opposite direction to the partition, coriaceous, with loculicidal dehiscence almost to the base by 2 valves; seeds numerous, discoid, long ciliated in the margin.
