Description

Eucalyptus effusa is a mallee that is native to Western Australia.The mallee tree typically grows to a height of 2 to 6 metres (7 to 20 ft) with persistent bark on the trunk.The shortly fibrous or stringy bark is grey or grey-brown in colour with pith glands present.The adult leaves are disjunct,glossy,green,thin and concolorous.Leaves have a lanceolate shape and are acuminate and basally tapered.Lateral veins obscure and acute.It blooms between October and March producing white flowers.Te conflorescence is simple and axillary.It has seven-flowered umbellasters on peduncles narrowly flattened or angular.It later buds and then forms fruits that are hemispherical or conical with a depressed disc.E.effusa is found on stony rises and plains in the Goldfields-Esperance region of Western Australia growing in shallow sandy or loamy soils over greenstone or laterite.The species was first formally described by the botanist Ian Brooker in 1976 published in the journal Nuytsia.The specimen was collected by G.M.Chippendale between Norseman and Balladonia in 1967.There are two known subspecies:Eucalyptus effusa subsp.exsul,commonly known as desert gimletEucalyptus effusa subsp.effusa,commonly known as rough-barked gimlet
