Description

Micromyrtus flaviflora is a plant species of the Myrtaceae family endemic to Western Australia. The erect, loose or spreading shrub typically grows to a height of 0.3 to 1.5 metres (1.0 to 4.9 ft). It blooms between January and November producing white or purple-pink or yellow flowers. It is found on sand dunes and sand plains in the Mid West, Pilbara and Goldfields-Esperance regions of Western Australia extending into the Northern Territory where it grows in sandy soils. Myrtus, with the common name myrtle, is a genus of flowering plants in the family Myrtaceae, described by Linnaeus in 1753. Over 600 names have been proposed in the genus, but nearly all have either been moved to other genera or been regarded as synonyms. The Myrtus genus has three species recognised today: 1.Myrtus communis - Common myrtle; native to the Mediterranean region in southern Europe. 2. Myrtus nivellei - Saharan myrtle; native to North Africa.
