Micromyrtus stenocalyx

Description

Micromyrtus stenocalyx is a plant species of the Myrtaceae family endemic to Western Australia. The straggly and spreading shrub typically grows to a height of 0.3 to 1.5 metres (1.0 to 4.9 ft). It blooms between April and December producing white flowers. It is found on undulating sand plains and sand dunes in the Goldfields-Esperance region of Western Australia to the east of Kalgoorlie where it grows in sandy soils. Myrtus, with the common name myrtle, is a genus of flowering plants in the family Myrtaceae, described by Linnaeus in 1753. Over 600 names have been proposed in the genus, but nearly all have either been moved to other genera or been regarded as synonyms. The Myrtus genus has three species recognised today: 1.Myrtus communis - Common myrtle; native to the Mediterranean region in southern Europe. 2. Myrtus nivellei - Saharan myrtle; native to North Africa.
