Description

Capanemia micromera is asmall-sized epiphytic orchid species of the genus Capanemia, native to eastern-central South America. Capanemia micromera presents small plants, with a short rhizome with an oval pseudobulb, with a base trimmed by sheaths, having a single flat leaf, terete, acicular, rigid, of minimum size, fissured on the upper side, with a maximum length of 35 mm. The inflorescence is a small raceme, always shorter than the leaves, with small white and yellow flowers that appear simultaneously. Sepals and petals free; wings extended towards the sessile labellum, which has a calloused base, an oblong shape and the tip is acute like the rostellum. The short column has 2 subspherical polynyas. Its appearance correlates to the micro habitat where it vegetates. If it does so in full sun exposure, it shows a compact size, with rigid light green leaves with violet tones; if instead it lives in the shade its size is lax and with dark green leaves. Capanemia micromera inhabits epiphytically, preferably on thin branches of bushes and trees in the jungles of central and central-eastern South America. This species is distributed in the southeastern and southern states of Brazil: from Minas Gerais and Rio de Janeiro, through São Paulo and Paraná, to Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul. In the northeast of Argentina it lives in the extreme north of Mesopotamia, in the jungles of the province of Misiones. It is also found in the northwest, in the yungas of Salta. It has populations in eastern Paraguay and part of Bolivia. Finally, in Uruguay it was herborized in the departments of Cerro Largo, Rivera, Rocha, Tacuarembó and Treinta y Tres. It inhabits both marginal forests and nearby exotic groves, as well as palm groves.
