HABIT Perennial;caespitose;clumped loosely.Culms 45–75 cm long.Ligule an eciliate membrane.Leaf-blades 2–4 mm wide.Leaf-blade surface scabrous;glabrous.INFLORESCENCE Inflorescence composed of racemes.Racemes 1;single;bilateral;7–13 cm long;bearing 15–25 fertile spikelets on each.Rhachis flattened.Spikelet packing broadside to rhachis;lax.Rhachis internodes linear.Spikelets solitary.Fertile spikelets sessile.FERTILE SPIKELETS Spikelets comprising 3–5 fertile florets;with diminished florets at the apex.Spikelets elliptic to oblong;laterally compressed;15–17 mm long;breaking up at maturity;disarticulating below each fertile floret.Rhachilla internodes pubescent.GLUMES Glumes persistent;similar;shorter than spikelet.Lower glume lanceolate;5–8 mm long;1 length of upper glume;coriaceous;much thinner on margins;without keels;3 -veined.Lower glume apex attenuate,or setaceously attenuate.Upper glume lanceolate;5–8 mm long;0.5–0.75 length of adjacent fertile lemma;coriaceous;with scarious margins;without keels;3 -veined.Upper glume apex attenuate,or setaceously attenuate.
