Wild Monkshood

“Pet poisonous” – Toxic parts: entire plant esp. roots, seeds Aconitum uncinatum, commonly known as wild monkshood or southern blue monkshood, is a species of flowering plant in the Ranunculaceae (buttercup) family. It grows in moist to wet habitats along streams and in woods and clearings. It grows in the eastern United States in the Appalachian Mountains, on the Piedmont, and on the upper Atlantic Coastal Plain. The dark green leaves of Aconitum species lack stipules. They are palmate or deeply palmately lobed with five to seven segments. Each segment again is trilobed with coarse sharp teeth. The leaves have a spiral (alternate) arrangement. The lower leaves have long petioles.
