Description

Clematis dioica is a species in the Ranunculaceae family. It is distributed in Mexico, Central America, the Antilles and South America.Species creeping perennial whose support in nature are usually shrubs and trees; it can reach up to 25 m. The leaves are petiolate, opposite, trifoliate, with ovate leaflets, 5 to 10 cm long by 2 to 7 cm wide. Inflorescence in branched racemes (panicles). Flowers white to greenish-white, with tépalos elliptical 6 to 10 mm long and 2.5 to 3.5 wide. The fruit is an achene, with a single seed. The leaves, stems and flowers used by traditional medicine mixed with lard to use as an ointment, are attributed disinfectant or anti-infective properties. Boiled in water, they are applied to relieve dropsy. To treat cavities, toothaches or teeth, a piece of stem and / or a ground leaf is placed on the affected part. In some respiratory diseases, such as colds, it is advisable to rub the body with the mixture of the leaves and garlic ( Allium sativum ) before going to bed. For the flu, the leaves are scrubbed and inhaled, or they are mixed with alcohol and camphor and inhaled with a cloth. It is also used to calm a cough.
