Description

The genus name, Crataegus, derives from the Greek word "kratos," which means strength, referring to the very strong wood of hawthorn, which is sometimes used to make tool handles.Anthropogenic (man-made or disturbed habitats), forest edges, meadows and fields, shrublands or thickets.
