Description

Leionema phylicifolium, commonly known as alpine phebalium, is a shrub that is endemic to south-eastern Australia. Plants grow to 1.5 metres high and have narrow leaves with recurved edges. Yellow flowers in a cylindrical arrangement appear at the end of branches in spring. The species was first formally described by Victorian Government Botanist Ferdinand von Mueller who had observed the species "on the highest peaks of the Cobboras Mountains, and on the sources of the Mitta Mitta." He gave it the name Phebalium phylicifolium. The species was transferred to the genus Leionema by Paul G. Wilson in 1998.
