Description

“Pet poisonous” – Toxic parts: leaves Nicotiana paniculata is a multi-leaved, bushy, annual plant which occasionally reaches heights of up to 3 m and has many strong, upright, or spreading branches nearly as high as the main shoot. The sprout axis is finely hairy at the base, upwards, particularly sticky in the inflorescences. The foliage leaves are finely hairy on the underside, are egg-shaped to heart-shaped and are 10 to 15 (rarely to 30) cm long including the inflorescens.The flower stalks are 2 to 5 mm long and extend to the fruits to 5 to 10 mm. The calyx is narrowly cylindrical and 6 to 10 mm long. The wedge-shaped septa are shorter than the septum. The crown is yellowish-green colored, glabrous or almost glabrous and 2 to 3 cm long. The crown-tube itself is 3 to 5 mm long, and 2 to 3 mm long, the crown-shaped corpuscle is three to five times as long, and 1.5 to three times as wide. The crown is 2 to 3 mm wide, the crown-lobes are often pointed. The stamens protrude slightly beyond the crown. All five or only four of the stamens are slightly bent. They are attached to the base of the coronet, and are hairy there.The fruit is an elliptical egg-shaped capsule , which is 8 to 12 mm long and is usually enclosed by the calyx. The seeds are long-stretched, angular-egg-shaped or elliptical, sometimes also indented. They become 0.5 to 0.6 mm long and are blackish-brown. The surface is grooved net-like. The embryo is straight.
