Description

Cenisia Viola L. ( Pensée du Mont Cenis in French) is a plant family of violet , endemic of Cenischia val in Piedmont. Perennial herbaceous plant with a ramy rhizome from which numerous gracile stems, 3-15 cm long, usually unifloral, leave. The arrangement of the leaves is spiraled and are present up to the apex. Provided with small stipules and have a foil of about one cm, rounded and often finely tomentose. Hermaphroditic and perfume-free, are formed on peduncles long from 2 to 6 cm; the glass has 5 glabrous sepals, free and lanceolate, with a small basal appendix. The corolla is made up of 5 free petals, with the larger and rammed bottom one. Soft violet color. Frequent in the calcareous screes and in the macereti, between 1000 and 3300 meters of altitude, where the stems find the best conditions to crawl among the stones. It is present only in the westernmost portion of the Italian Alps , with some expansion on the French side.
