Description

Native to Puerto Rico, Renealmia occidentalis is common in the forests of Maricao. The plant is erect, from 6-8 feet tall, and the inflorescences are basal. Ovaries (fruits) are bright red, turning black when ripe, and flowers are yellow. All parts of the plant have a strong gingery fragrance. Attractive in the garden and as a cut flower. Blooms from December through June. Propagated by division and seeds.
