Description

Peganum-L.-is a-genus-under the recently separated family-Nitrariaceae-(Sheahan & Chase 1996). Formerly it used to be included in the family-Zygophyllaceae. Evergreen plant with alternate leaves, pinnatisectas . The tetrameric or pentameric flowers. Sepals erect, persistent. Androceo with 12-15 stamens ; staminate filaments dilated at the base. Very developed nectar disk. Ovary globose, trilocular. Fruit without thorns, with persistent style. The genus has five species, being native to temperate-warm or sub-tropical zones around the world.
