(Philonotis fontana)
Philonotis fontana , the common spring moss, is a form-rich, two-faced Laubmoos, which predominantly occurs in damp, low-calorie locations. In recent times, sporic capsules are rarely developed because of the increasing environmental pollution. As a rule vegetative propagation by bud-shaped brood-bodies occurs. The moss is therefore suitable as a pointer type for little polluted water. By a fine, water-repellent wax coating of the plants the moss is difficult to wet. The genus name comes from the Greek philos (friend) and Notia (moisture).
