Description

Eurhynchium , in German Sch-n Schnabel Moose called, is a genus of mosses from the family Brachytheciaceae. The strong, stiff, light green to brownish green moss plants form loose and often quite extensive lawns. They are often branch-shaped branches, individual branches are often lengthened like a flagellum. The sparsely protruding leaves are broadly ovate-triangular to ovoid-lanceolate, pointed and longitudinally folded, and have sawn and largely flat margins. All leaves have a simple rib up to about 3/4 of the leaf length, the end of the rib usually emerging as a mandrel on the leaf side. The leaf cells are linear and thin-walled in the middle of the leaf, shorter at the base of the leaf, somewhat broader, moderately thick-walled, and spotted; The leaf wing cells are rectangular. Pedestal leaves and branch leaves are similar, the latter somewhat narrower and smaller. The species are dioecious . The sporophyte has a red, smooth seta and an inclined to horizontal, curved, cylindrical spur capsule with long-lobed lid.
