Description

Campylium , alsocalled Goldschlafmoose , is a genus of foliage mosses from the family Amblystegiaceae . The name has its origin in the Greek: campylos = curved, which can refer to the leaves as well as to the spur capsules. The delicate to strong plants of this genus grow with irregular to low-branched stems in yellow-green to golden-brown lawns. The mostly sparsely protruding upwards bent sheets are often narrowly broadened from a broad basis and pulled out into a long point. The leaf margin is smooth or toothed and flat to slightly bent. A leaf rib is missing or is short and double, less common and longer. The leaf cells are linear-worm-shaped, in the often clearly defined leaf-leaves roundish-square. The species are dioecious or autoecious . The cylindrical to elliptical and curved capsule has a double peristome. The capsule cap is tapered.
