Toothed Plagiomnium Moss

(Plagiomnium cuspidatum)

galery

Description

Shoots are 1.5-4 cm tall. The leaves of P. cuspidatum are 2.5-3.5 mm long, and taper more gradually at the tip than those of other Plagiomnium species. The margins are sharply toothed, but the teeth are more or less confined to the upper half of the leaf, and the leaf base runs down onto the stem. The cells are small, no longer than wide, and are not arranged in diagonal rows; with care this can be seen with a -20 hand lens. The non-fertile stems of this species may either be erect or curved. Capsules are frequent, 3 mm long with a conical lid.
