Description

The Laubmoos Rhizomnium magnifolium is about 2 to 6 cm tall and forms up to 1 cm long and 6 mm wide leaves. Its stems are usually covered with a dense rhizoid felt , which consists of micro- (small, lateral rhizoids between the leaves and stems) and macronemata (larger, leafy rhizoids). The obovate-shaped to elliptical shaped leaves have a short blunt tip. The leaf rib ends just before the tip. The leaf margin consists of 1 to 5 rows of elongated, mostly brownish-colored cells. Rhizomnium magnifolium is a circuboreal species found in the mountains of Europe, East Asia, North America and Greenland. It populates swell.
