Description

Anomodon viticulosus forms vigorous to square-meter, yellow or fresh green, non-shining lawns. The creeping primary stems arise from the ascending secondary stems or branches, which are not very branched. The moist, protruding, one-sided branch leaves, which are loosely attached in the dry state, are 2 to 3 millimeters long, gradually narrowed into a blunt tip from a broad base. The frequently wavy leaf edges are folded flat or partially. The vigorous leaf rib ends before the leaf tip.The leaf cells in the upper leaf part are round to polyhedral, thin-walled, opaque, have several papillae per cell and are in the leaf center 8 to 13 -m. In the center of the leaf base they are transparent, thick-walled, rectangular to elongated and have no papillae.Sporogons are frequently formed in this way. The seta is red and 8 to 16 millimeters long, the spur capsule upright to slightly inclined, cylindrical, straight to slightly curved, the lid short and obliquely. The plants are dioecious .
