Description

Neurodium is a monotypic genus of ferns belonging to the Polypodiaceae family. Its only species : Neurodium lanceolatum , is native to America. It is a plant with-rhizome-of 0.5-1 cm in diameter, linear-lanceolate to ovate, imbricate, whole, rigid, black to brownish-black, sometimes bicolour scales with the clearest margins;-Leaves 15-50 x 1-3 cm, rigidly upward;-Petiole 0.5-5 x 0.1-0.15 cm, flattened or smoothly furrowed adaxially, terete abaxially, glabrous, fawn or brown to blackish, narrowly distally winged;-Leaf 14.5-45 cm, linear to closely elliptical, coriaceous, glossy, bright green, whole margins to repand, sometimes cartilaginous;-Little prominent coast near apex, terete abaxially, flattened and angular adaxially;-Numerous paraffins, brownish-red, filamentous. It is located in the jungles tall evergreen , flood forests, at an altitude of 200-500 meters , in Florida , Southern Mexico , Mesoamerica , French Guiana and the Antilles.
