Acaciellais aNeotropicalgenus offlowering plantsin thelegumefamily,Fabaceae, and its subfamilyMimosoideae. Itscentre of diversityis along theMexicanPacific coast. They are unarmed, have noextrafloral nectariesand the polyads of theirpollenare 8-celled.Though its numerous free stamens (sometimes >300) is typical ofAcacia s.l., it has several characteristics in common with genusPiptadenia(tribeMimoseae). Its pollen and freeamino acidsresemble that ofSenegalia. Molecular studies place it sister to amonophyleticclade comprising elements of genusAcacia, and the tribeIngeae.A nectary ring is present between the stamens and ovary, in common withAcaciasubg.Aculeiferum.
