Jesiah’s heart was racing. He was sweating as he swallowed loudly. He knew why the officer was in his house. But did he know about his secret? What if he knew what he had raised from the waters 27 years before? He felt like he was caught in a trap that he couldn’t escape. He wanted to act on his impulses but before he could, the officer spoke. Jesiah could never have expected what he would say.

He Knew

Jesiah Willfred was a simple man. He chose to live by himself. Most people need social interactions, but not Jesiah. He liked being on his own. He appreciated the small things in life that always seemed to make a difference. He followed the same old routine for years. He was a retired man who would wake up in the morning, take his dog for a walk and then work on his many projects that he kept in the shed. But little did he know that one of these projects would catch the attention of the FBI.

His Projects 

For 30 years, Jesiah had worked as an engineer before retiring at the age of 55. He was now 60-years-old and was enjoying his retired lifestyle. He loved tinkering with anything and everything he could find. He always felt good when it came to his work. He always felt like he knew what he was doing when working on projects. Before his retirement, he was one of the best and brightest engineers. But one of these projects would end up taking things way too far.

From a young age, Jesiah took a liking to diving. He had his diving permit from a young age and he was obsessed with the idea of finding something special. But then he heard about a tip just off the coast of Georgia. He was curious and decided to investigate the rumors about what was buried within the water. But while he prepared for his dive, he had no idea how true they all were.

Diving Permit

Once Jesiah had geared up, he dove into the cold water of Wassaw Sound. He made his way deep into the water before looking around. For a while, he didn’t see anything, and he was about to give up. But as he prepared to swim back to the surface, he noticed something manmade and half-buried on the seafloor. His eyes widened and he couldn’t believe his eyes. He had just stumbled upon his greatest challenge and project.

He Found Something

Jesiah was lucky, he knew of a few people that would be willing to help him. He didn’t want to alert the authorities, so he raised the metal project from the shallow water during the dark night and loaded it into his truck. With hard work and determination, he managed to get it back to his home where he was able to get a better look at it. He knew how lucky he was. It was dangerous but he liked the challenge. But little did he know who would knock on his door just 27 years later.

Dangerous Challenge 

What he had fished from the water afforded him 27 years of free electricity. He was satisfied. It made him smirk knowing that very few people would have been able to hook the device up safely. Any other person would have alerted the authorities and let the government take it away. He thought it was fair and square, he wanted to benefit from it rather than anyone else.

Satisfying Find

He knew that he was taking a risk. If anyone found out where he was getting his power from, he could be done in. That was why he decided to keep his “project” in his shed. No one would ever go in there, and he rarely ever had guests over. It was safest to keep it in the shed. But now Jesiah was 60 years old and he thought he had gotten away with it. But little did he know what consequences his actions would have, he was about to get a surprise visit from an unexpected visitor.

Unexpected Guest 

One morning, Jesiah got up from bed and started his usual routine. He prepared a pot of coffee and got dressed before taking his dog for a walk. As usual, he took him for an hour-long walk around the neighborhood. It was something he loved to do. But little did he know that at that very moment, his past was catching up with him. When he got home, he barely got the chance to sit down before he heard a knock on the door.

Going For A Walk

Jesiah never had guests over, so he knew that it would be trouble. He took a deep breath before opening his front door a crack. There was a police officer standing in front of him. “Morning, sir, could I ask you a few questions?” He asked Jesiah. Despite what was in the shed, Jesiah respected law enforcement officers. “Of course, Officer.” But he had no idea what the man had up his sleeve.

Knock On The Door

Jesiah felt his pulse racing. He knew exactly why the officer was in his house. Did he know about his secret? Did he know about what he had raised from the waters 27 years ago? He felt backed into a corner that he couldn’t get out of. But before he could act on any of his impulses, the officer opened his mouth and said something that he could never have expected.

Catching Up To Him

The Officer asked, “Sir, are you in possession of any government property?” Jesiah knew that the jig was up. He knew that the only way to get out of it was to come clean. He confessed what he had. The officer’s eyes grew wide. It was clear that he didn’t want to believe what he had. It was above his paygrade. He had to call in the big guns.

The Jig Was Up

After an hour, the house was surrounded by the FBI. They searched his property and found the secret that he had been keeping for so many years. It was an undetonated bomb. To be exact, it was a nuclear bomb from the 60s. The bomb was on board a military aircraft. After it started having engine troubles, the pilot was forced to drop his payload into the shallow waters of Wassaw Sound.

A Bomb

The military made the call to try and recover the bomb for the next two months after it was dropped. It seemed that luck wasn’t on their side, and it became the last nuclear bomb that the military ever lost. It seems that Jesiah was both lucky and unlucky to find the bomb when the military couldn’t. What he thought was his right to find was something that the government thought differently about.

Recovery Effort

They would raid Jesiah’s house and get an expert team to remove the bomb from his property. They took it away and presumably dismantled it. But what happened to Jesiah? There have been no reports on whether or not Jesiah had to pay a fine or faced any consequences of any kind. Normally someone would be arrested but It’s not surprising since the government would rather keep things like that classified.
