Laura&#8217;s heart pounded in her chest as she peeked inside the shed. Her cat appeared to have been devoured by the darkness within. Where had he gone? He didn&#8217;t come when she called out to him. Laura needed to act quickly. If her mother discovered her in there, she would be furious. Laura, you see, was not permitted to enter the shed. Her mother made certain of it. She entered the shed and used her phone as a flashlight Then, a container in the corner caught her eye. Adrenaline filled her body, and she was filled with terror. What was in it, exactly? She had a strong desire to flee and hide. It was the same as when she was a kid, terrified of the &#8216;monster under the bed.&#8217; But she was no longer a child. This wasn&#8217;t a made-up beast, either. This was the actual world. As she approached the box, she got a sick feeling in the bottom of her stomach.

A Beast In The Shed

Laura Robinson believed she had the best life. She had wonderful parents, a lovely home, and wonderful friends. Not to mention the fact that she was going to begin college in a few months. Laura was, without a doubt, having the time of her life. Nothing could have deterred her in this new phase; she was excited and prepared. Laura, on the other hand, had no idea how far she was off the mark.

Living Her Best Life

Her Monday morning routine began when she hopped out of bed and headed downstairs to eat breakfast. As she was about to enter the kitchen, she could hear her parents speak in a whispered tone. 
She looked over the corner, trying to hear what was going on. They both appeared nervous, as if they were concealing something they didn&#8217;t want others to know about. What was going on with them? Laura had no idea her world was about to come crumbling down around her.

Whispers

Laura&#8217;s mother, Ronnie, remarked, &#8220;We can&#8217;t tell her. She&#8217;ll be utterly devastated.&#8221; Laura felt a shiver run up her neck as she listened in. What were they talking about and why would she be so upset? Laura needed to know the truth. Her parents, on the other hand, were not going to tell her. Not at all. Laura had no choice but to find out for herself. But what she was about to find out would make her question all she had ever believed.

Secrets

Laura had always suspected her parents of concealing something. And after hearing their exchange, Laura&#8217;s fears were confirmed. Her family was keeping something from her, but what was it? Why would they do that in the first place? Laura had no intention of simply sitting down and remaining silent. She needed to know the truth. Laura, on the other hand, had no idea that she should have kept her questions to herself.

Something Was Amiss

Laura decided to clean out her closet later that day. So, after around three hours, she had sifted through dozens of outfits. She intended to donate the clothing bags to a charitable organization, but until she could find the time to go, she would leave them in the shed at the back of her garden. Laura was walking towards the shed when she heard a loud noise. The voice cried, &#8220;Don&#8217;t go in!&#8221;

Spring Cleaning

Laura&#8217;s mother rushed out and yelled, &#8220;Don&#8217;t go in there.&#8221; “Why?” Laura asked. &#8220;Just don&#8217;t,&#8221; she said, her face flushed as if she was struggling to think of a plausible justification. &#8220;There are rats,&#8221; she said quickly, &#8220;and you don&#8217;t want to let them out do you?&#8221; she asked, before scooping up a bag of Laura&#8217;s things and returning home. Laura&#8217;s mother replied, &#8220;We can just put these in my wardrobe.&#8221; Laura hurried back to the home, reluctantly agreeing. She did, however, turn back once more before entering. A dreadful feeling started to fill her stomach.

Strange Behavior

Laura&#8217;s parents had gone out of town a couple of days later. Laura came home from her classes and was midway through making a salad when she noticed her cat Nibbles trying to escape. Laura went over to Nibbles, who was sitting by the back door and unlocked it for him. As she opened the door for her cat, she could not help but feel like she had to follow him. It was an unexplainable feeling, but she knew she needed to trust her gut.

Gut Feeling

Laura trailed Nibbles as he walked around the garden, eventually arriving at the shed. The cat looked back to face Laura and meowed as he clawed the shed&#8217;s entrance. Why did the cat need to get inside? It was nothing more than a shed filled with trash and gardening tools. Laura was ignorant of what was about to transpire.

Just A Shed

Nibbles slide into the shed through the open entrance and vanish into the blackness. Laura then tries to locate a light switch, but it appears to be broken, much to her disappointment. She pulls out her phone and launches the flashlight application. Laura was scanning the area with her eyes and flashlight when she noticed something, something that would change her life forever.

Investigating

As she took a sip of her smoothie, she saw her cat Nibbles was trying to get out of the house through the back door. Laura went over and opened the back door for Nibbles but something inside her told to follow the cat. She had no idea why, but she knew she had to follow.

Letting Her Cat Out

Laura followed behind Nibbles as he made his way through the garden, then he came across the shed. The cat turned around to Laura and let out a meow as he scratched the front door of the shed. The cat wanted to go inside, but why? It was just a shed. It had gardening tools and rubbish in. Laura had no idea what was coming.

Following The Cat

She opens the door to the shed and Nibbles slips himself in disappearing into the darkness. Laura then attempts to find a light switch but to her dismay, it doesn’t work. She can feel her heartbeat in her throat and panic brews like tea in a pot. She had to be quick and she had to find whatever it was her parents were keeping from her. But time was running out.

Inside The Shed 

She whips out her cellphone and loads up the flashlight app. She carefully scans the room with her eyes and flashlight, trying to find something that looked strange or suspicious. A few seconds later, Laura saw something. And it was something that would turn her world upside down.

Looking Around

Just as Laura was about to gasp, she heard a car pull up, followed by the sound of a car door slamming. Had her parents come back already? Laura looked at her phone; they had only been out 20 minutes, surely it wasn’t them? Either way, Lara stood frozen in her tracks trying to listen out. If it was her parents she was going to be in deep trouble. But time was running out.

Someone’s Home

A few moments later, Laura realized the sound was from her neighbor&#8217;s opposite. Phew. That was close. She carries on looking inside the shed. As her eyes scanned the dusty and cluttered shed, suddenly, Laura notices a large box in the corner. And a terrible feeling hits the pit of her stomach.

That Was Close

Hidden in the corner was a massive box covered in fabric. What was inside? Slowly Laura made her way and ripped the fabric off. She had to find out why her parents didn’t want her in here. What were they hiding? She opens the box and right there and then, Laura’s knees drop to the floor. She couldn’t believe it. Was this legitimate? Was this the reason why her parents had been so sneaky?

A Random Box

You see, it turned out that inside the box was a top of the range computer with a note stuck on it saying “To Laura,’ she was speechless! She had been wanting this computer for years and as she was starting university in a couple of months she dropped a few hints to her parents, but she never expected them to come through!

Truth Is Revealed

Laura knew she couldn’t let her parents know she found the computer. They would be heartbroken. Quickly, she leaves the shed and heads back into her house. She sits herself on the sofa and looks out the window waiting for her parents to come back. She couldn’t believe it. As if they had got her such an incredible computer!

Back Inside The House

Her parents arrived back and Laura kept her lips sealed shut. She was going to wait for them to surprise her, after all, she didn’t want them to know she went against them. When they walked through the door Laura went over and embraced both of them. She said nothing, but her affection said a thousand words.
