PlantSnap connects people with nature on Snapchat
Today’s Video of the Day from Snapchat describes an exciting new partnership with PlantSnap, the world’s most comprehensive and accurate plant identification app.
Now, with the Snapchat Camera, users can simply snap a photo of a plant and Platsnap will instantly identify it.
“We’re trying to make it fun to notice and interact with nature,” said PlantSnap Founder/CEO Eric Ralls. “Nature needs us right now.”
Beyond inspiring users to get out and explore nature, Plantsnap is building an unprecedented database that will help experts track the health and distribution of plant species worldwide.
According to Ralls, PlantSnap has set a goal to map every plant species on the planet by 2022. Currently, Plantsnap averages more than half a million snaps in 200 countries every day. The database contains over 620,000 plants and can be translated in 37 languages.
“At PlantSnap, we’re reigniting interest in the beauty and wonder of nature and the amazing plant life that surrounds us every day, while empowering scientists and nature enthusiasts with the technology to catalog and share their discoveries,” said Ralls.
“What is most compelling about this integration of PlantSnap into Snapchat is that it gives us the opportunity to engage with Snapchat’s 229 million daily active users, many of whom are part of Gen Z, in hopes of capturing their interest in plants while instilling into them an eternal love and respect for nature and the environment.”
