Polio vaccine could help fight COVID-19

05-21-2020

Today’s Video of the Day from the American Chemical Society (ACS) describes how a polio vaccine may be a short-term solution for slowing the COVID-19 pandemic.

The polio vaccine is a live attenuated viral vaccine that could be used to kickstart the innate immune system in the earliest stages of COVID-19.

According to the ACS, the coronavirus can make the immune system act erratically and even block it from responding.

The polio vaccine, or another live attenuated vaccine, could help the body fight off the virus early before it establishes itself and causes widespread and persistent infection.
