The ECOSTRESS mission will monitor plant health from space

09-18-2018

Today’s Video of the Day from NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory describes the ECOSTRESS mission, which will measure the temperature of plants to determine how much water they use and need.

Data from the Ecosystem Spaceborne Thermal Radiometer Experiment on the Space Station (ECOSTRESS) will be used to help sustain food production and maintain ecosystem health across the planet.

The instrument will be capable of monitoring Earth’s vegetation in ways that have not yet been possible, detecting heat and water stress before it has taken its toll on crops and other plants.
