Description

Leggadina lakedownensis is a rodent from the genus Leggadina that occurs in Australia.His distribution area consists of a number of separate populations: the Pilbara in the northwest of Western Australia;Thevenard Island,slightly west of the Pilbara;the northeast of Western Australia to the northeast of the Northern Territory;a number of fragmented populations in the northeast of Queensland.The first two populations used to belong to the other species of the genus,L.forresticounted.Its habitat consists of tropical savanna or wet grassland;in the Pilbara he also lives in rocky areas. This species is very similar to L.forresti,but has a somewhat gray back,which turns into the white belly (with L.forresti there is an abrupt transition).Furthermore,the point of the canines at L.lakedownensis is more forward.Also L.chinensis lake down slightly smaller.The back is gray-brown,gradually changing to the white underside of the body.There is sometimes a pale ring around the eyes.The head-body length is 65 to 78 mm,the tail length 40 to 50 mm,the hindfoot length 14 to 16 mm,the ear length 11 to 13 mm and the weight 15 to 25 grams.Females have 0 + 2 = 4 mammae.
