Southern gastric-brooding frog

(Rheobatrachus silus)

Description

Rheobatrachus silus is an extinct species of anurous amphibian of the family Myobatrachidae. It was the only known animal capable of hatching its eggs in its stomach,a fact that apparently disconnected its digestive enzymes by a substance produced by eggs. This frog went extinct in 1981.Scientists from the University of New South Wales announced in March 2013 that this species was within the "Lazarus Project",which attempts to resuscitate extinct species by cloning;thus, they have managed to clone some embryos, but they have not survived.
