Description

Rhinopias cea, or Cea's scorpionfish, is a species of scorpionfish known only from Easter Island. This species grows to a length of 20.2 centimetres (8.0 in). This species is only known from the holotype found at Easter Island on the rocky bottom 5 metres (16 ft) below the surface. This holotype was caught by hand in February 1985. The species Rhinopias cea was named in honour of Dr. Alfredo Cea Egaña, to recognize his contribution to the knowledge of the fishes of Easter Island. Rhinopias cea are brownish orange-red in colour with blotches of dark brown.
