Description

Dorcopsis luctuosa is a kangaroo from the genus Dorcopsis that occurs in southern New Guinea.The two separate populations in south-eastern Papua New Guinea and south and west of the river Fly in south-western Papua New Guinea and south-east Irian Jaya are seen as separate subspecies (respectively luctuosa ( sensu stricto ) and phyllis Groves & Flannery,1989) and possibly represent separate species.D.luctuosa is a long time in the Mullerwallaby (D.muelleri ).D.luctuosa is a social species that lives in separate groups,is active at dusk and eats all kinds of vegetable matter.Females are sexually mature after about 15 months.The youngsters stay in the pouch for 180 to 190 days after birth and leave the pouch one or two weeks later,after which the female receives a new pup.
