Description

Noctilio albiventris (a Lesser bulldog bat ) is a mammalian species described by Anselme Gaëtan Desmarest in 1818.Noctilio albiventris is part of the genus Noctilio and family harmony bats.The IUCN categorizes the species globally as viable.No subspecies are listed in the Catalog of Life.Wilson & Reeder (2005) distinguishes between three subspecies.The species reaches a body length (head and bonfire) of 65 to 68 mm,a tail length of 13 to 16 mm and a weight of 27 to 35 g.The coat's color depends on individual,gender,range and season.The color may vary between dark brown,maroon,yellowish brown and whiteish.On the back of the back there may be a lighter streak.The streak is not as clear as in Noctilio leporinus.The species has narrow pointed ears.This bat is present in Central and South America from southern Mexico to northern Argentina.It lives in the lowlands and in mountain ranges up to 1100 meters above sea level.The habitat varies but the species always lives near watercourses or near other water bodies.The individuals rest in the cavities of the trees,in the dense vegetation or in hiding places created by humans.At rest there are larger flocks,often accompanied by species of the genus Molossus.The hunt happens later in the night and during the night.Noctilio albiventris chases insects and sometimes fishes.In Mexico the mating takes place in November or December and the only kid is born in the summer.
