Description

The jumping of Araripe ( Antilophia bokermanni ) is a species of passerine bird in danger of extinction,of the Pipridae family. It was discovered in 1996 and scientifically described in 1998.The specific epithet commemorates the Brazilian zoologist and wildlife filmmaker Werner Bokermann, who died in 1995.Due to its crown-shaped helmet,it has received the Portuguese name of soldadinho-do-araripe,which means " soldier of Araripe ".This name is also associated with the related, but more extended, jumping of helm ( Antilophia galeata ),which is known simply as soldadinho. As is typical of most jumping animals, males and females show strong sexual dimorphism in the colors of their plumage.Like the jumping helmet,it is relatively large and long-tailed,with a total length of 14.5 to 15 cm and average weight of 20 g.The males have a predominantly white plumage. With the exception of the white coverts, the wings and tail are black. From the front tuft, over the crown and up to the middle of the back, there is a carmine red spot. The irisIt is red.The females are mainly pale olive green and have upper green parts. They have a small frontal lock of olive green color.
