Description

The Italian cave salamander ( Italian cave salamander Dunn,1923 ),also known as cave salamander italics,is an amphibious caudate belonging to the family of Pletodontidi.The Italian (or Italic) geotritone is a small and gracile terrestrial salamander with large eyes,parotoid glands,a so-called nasal-labial groove,visible between the nostril and upper lip,and snout with a pronounced square edge.The color of the back is very variable,mostly from brownish to reddish,with dark brown spots or ocher of various conformation.Also the ventral side is brownish,partly with clear spots.Both well-developed interdigital membranes are present between the anterior and posterior fingers.The males are often slightly smaller and in the breeding season they present the so-called chin glands,which play a role during mating..It has a total length of 10-12.5 cm.
